4. Data Storage and Security

Your data security is our top priority:

  • Location: Your data is stored in a Supabase database in Zurich, Switzerland; the application servers that read and write it run on Vercel in Frankfurt, Germany
  • Encryption: Every connection uses HTTPS with TLS, enforced with HSTS, and stored data is encrypted at rest with AES-256
  • Certified Infrastructure: Vercel and Supabase are both audited for SOC 2 Type 2 and certified to ISO 27001
  • Row Level Security: Database policies ensure you can only access your own data - no user can view or modify another user's information
  • Password Security: Passwords are hashed with bcrypt by Supabase Auth and are never stored in plain text. If you sign in with Google, we never see a password at all
  • Session Management: Session cookies are only sent over HTTPS, use SameSite=Lax, and are refreshed automatically

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate Smart FIRE Calculator:

  • Supabase: Database hosting and user authentication
  • Vercel: Application hosting and deployment
  • Vercel Analytics: Anonymous usage analytics to improve the service

These providers are bound by their own privacy policies and security standards. We only share the minimum data necessary for them to provide their services.

6. Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your data:

  • Access: You can view all your stored data at any time through the application
  • Correction: You can update or correct your information through the app settings
  • Deletion: You can delete individual entries or request complete account deletion
  • Export: You can export your data in a portable format upon request
  • Withdraw Consent: You can stop using the service and request data deletion at any time

7. Cookies and Local Storage

We use essential cookies and browser storage for authentication and session management. These are strictly necessary for the application to function and cannot be disabled. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or any non-essential cookies.

You can explore the app without an account, and nothing you enter is saved until you have one. When you try to save, the change waits in your browser's session storage while you sign up or log in, and is then saved to your account. It does not leave your device before that, and it is discarded when you close the tab, dismiss the sign-up window, or after 30 minutes.

8. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all associated data will be permanently removed from our systems within 30 days. Backup copies may persist for up to 90 days before being permanently deleted.

9. Children's Privacy

Smart FIRE Calculator is not intended for children under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have collected data from a child, please contact us immediately.

10. International Data Transfers

Your financial data is stored in Zurich, Switzerland, and the application servers that process it run in Frankfurt, Germany. Requests first pass through Vercel's global edge network, which serves static files and forwards your request over encrypted connections. Switzerland and the European Union recognise each other's data protection laws as adequate. Vercel is also certified under the EU-U.S. and Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Frameworks for any data its US operations handle.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
